Lisa’s Dream
Dream Share is an opportunity for the community to come together to support one youth!
Lisa’s dream is to watch the former foster youth she mentored walk across the graduation stage.
Like so many former foster youth, when Lisa aged out of the system, she came face to face with what independence feels like with little to no support. Instead of being launched into the next chapter of life with the basics covered and a home base to rely on, she met independent status with the overwhelming task of finding secure housing, employment, healthcare, and so much more, on her own. She didn’t allow herself to fold under the pressure, though, and through hard work, determination, and the support of a special non-profit organization, she not only found her footing, but she found her voice.
For the last several months, while going to school and working full-time, Lisa has been mentoring former foster youth on Zoom, through the same non-profit that so significantly shaped her story. In hopes of inspiring them with her experiences, she has companioned them through the program, investing in their development, growth, and healing. This summer, they will graduate, and Lisa is dreaming of being there in person to support and cheer them on. The director of the non-profit shared, “Lisa has been a huge source of encouragement and hope to them, some of whom have had very similar experiences, and they will be so encouraged to have her there to celebrate!”
Lisa is not only focused on building a better future for herself, but is passionate about helping others do the same. Fulfilling this dream will give her a front row seat to the impact she’s had in the lives of others and inspire her to continue giving back.
