When Life Breaks You: A Message from Jay
Some seasons of life test us in ways we never imagined. For me, experiencing homelessness while also grieving the loss of my parents was one of the most painful chapters of my life. There were moments when the weight of loss and uncertainty felt overwhelming.
Yet even in those moments, my faith became my foundation. God reminded me that my circumstances did not define my future. His promises gave me strength when I felt weak and hope when everything around me seemed uncertain.
Scripture tells us in Romans 8:28 that “in all things God works for the good of those that love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” Holding onto that promise helped me understand that even the most difficult trials can become part of God’s greater plan for our lives.
Today, I carry that testimony with me. What once felt like brokenness has become a source of strength and encouragement. My prayer is that my story reminds others that no matter how dark the season may feel, God is still present, still working, and still able to bring hope and restoration.
Faith has shown me that trials are not the end of the story—they are often where God begins to reveal His greatest purpose.
As I reflect on that truth as Easter approaches, I’m reminded of small memories from childhood—Easter mornings filled with candy, tights, ruffle socks, and those uncomfortable clothes we had to dress up in for church. Back then, it felt like Easter was about the traditions. But as I’ve grown in faith, I’ve come to understand that Easter is really about redemption.
The truth is, my story hasn’t always been one of hope. There was a time when I didn’t care much about myself or about others, and I didn’t think about who I might hurt along the way.
But everything changed when I encountered Jesus and received His free gift of love. When I first gave my life to God, I found myself captured by the meaning of the cross. The thought that God would send His only Son to die for me was a love I simply couldn’t turn away from. That kind of love transforms you.
Today, because of that love, I’m living in hope. What once felt like darkness in my story has been filled with light. And that’s the beauty of God’s purpose—He takes broken pieces, painful seasons, and even our past mistakes, and turns them into testimonies of grace, redemption, and new life.
