Merissa is dreaming of a washer and dryer for her new apartment. Fulfilling this dream will allow her to manage her time more effectively and settle into her space with dignity and ease.
Merissa spent seven years in foster care and aged out at 18 without the guidance and support of family. Gaining her footing in adulthood has been hard. She has experienced housing instability, uncertainty around critical life decisions, and the stress of having to face life’s inevitable challenges alone.
Today, Merissa is working toward her bachelor’s degree while also serving as an advocate for homeless youth through her role on a Youth Action Board. Her lived experience fuels her passion to help others facing similar challenges, and she continues to step into opportunities, even when they push her outside of her comfort zone.
Merissa is resilient, determined, and deeply committed to creating a better future—not just for herself, but for others. With the support of our community, she will be able to create a more stable and functional home environment as she continues pursuing her education and advocacy work.
