Lizzie is dreaming of tuition assistance for nursing school. Fulfilling this dream will relieve a huge financial burden and allow her to focus on her studies.
When Lizzie aged out of foster care at eighteen, she quickly realized how hard it was to step into adulthood alone. She was on her own with little support and had to learn all about independent living without the guidance of loved ones or the safety of caring adults in her life. She shared, “It's hard not to have a landing space. Usually, when kids go to college or turn 18, they still have a landing pad of parents. I think that's been the hardest- feeling lonely, and also trying to push against the grain for myself and my future with not a lot of help.”
Lizzie’s faith and unstoppable determination have compelled her through her challenges, and now she is happy, healthy, and pursuing her goals! She is currently studying to get her bachelor's degree in nursing and has dreams of going to grad school to become a nurse practitioner. Lizzie’s vision for nursing is powerful: “It's much more than med checks, meals, helping dress them, or giving practical care. It's empathy when their visitors leave, it's processing the emotions of news they didn't expect, it's grieving with them when loss arises, and they're unsure how to move forward.” Lizzie is the kind of nurse we would all dream of having, and by supporting her, we are clearing a semester’s worth of obstacles and giving her the boost she needs to realize her goals.
