Kirsten is dreaming of becoming an elevator mechanic and is in need of durable work clothing. Fulfilling this dream will provide her with the specialized work pants and gear she needs to succeed in her apprenticeship and continue building a stable future in the skilled trades.
Kirsten entered foster care at the age of five and remained in care until she was 21. Since aging out, she has worked hard to build a life for herself while navigating adulthood independently. Like many former foster youth, she has faced financial challenges and the responsibility of creating stability without a strong support system.
Today, Kirsten is enrolled in trade school and has begun an apprenticeship with an elevator company—an exciting achievement in a field where women remain significantly underrepresented. She is proud of passing the aptitude test and interview process that opened the door to this opportunity and is now focused on learning the trade and building a long-term career as an elevator mechanic.
One challenge she has encountered is finding work clothing designed specifically for women in the construction industry. As an apprentice, Kirsten is required to carry her tools in her pockets while on the job and is not permitted to use a tool bag. Many standard work pants do not provide the durability, fit, or storage needed for her work. Kirsten hopes to receive a few pairs of work pants designed for tradeswomen that offer the functionality she needs while allowing her to feel comfortable and confident in her field.
Friends describe Kirsten as goal-driven, motivated, and determined. Support with work clothing would be more than a practical gift—it would be an investment in a hardworking young woman who is breaking barriers, pursuing a career in the skilled trades, and creating a path toward long-term stability and success.
