Joel is dreaming to be outfitted with the right tools for his upcoming apprenticeship. Fulfilling this dream will provide him with the equipment he needs to embark on an exciting career development opportunity as an electrician.
It’s been said that “destiny is forged in the fires of your courage,” and for Joel this proverb rings deeply true. His time in foster care began when young men need strong role models to help guide the way, but for him, there was only transition, uncertainty, and a looming future without a safety net. He reflected, “I didn’t have family to fall back on, so I had to learn how to survive on my own quickly. That included facing homelessness, struggling to afford basic needs like food and housing, and trying to make decisions about school and work without much guidance.”
With fierce determination and vision for a future defined by stability, service, and sustainability, he applied for and was accepted to an electrician apprenticeship program where he will gain all of the skills necessary to become an expert in his craft, while also going to trade school for his certification.
Joel’s dream is to successfully complete his apprenticeship and trade school program, move on to get his license as a contractor, and start his own company where he will provide excellent service as an electrician and develop a program for employing and mentoring former foster youth who are stuck and need an opportunity.
When asked what this dream would mean to him, Joel said, “Receiving this dream will give me the breathing room to focus on learning, performing my job well, and preparing for classes, without the added stress of financial strain.” Let’s relieve the pressure and get this future business leader set up for success!
