You’re Not Alone: Stories of Hope from Aged-Out Youth

Hi, Dream Makers community!

In our last newsletter, we celebrated your uncommon courage, resilience, determination, and compassion! We’re proud of the ways you’re fighting for a better future. As a way to honor your hard work and encourage you to keep going, we’ll be highlighting some of your stories this summer. As you read about other aged-out youth who are seeing their dreams come to life, we hope you’ll feel inspired to keep going after yours!

Alexandria, like so many of you, faced the challenges of aging out without support.

In her own words:

“When I turned 18, I had no help at all, and it was a struggle to figure out how real life works – credit, renting, and other basic necessities…I was on my own.

At 18, Alexandria faced the world alone. No safety net. No guidance. Just dreams weighed down by uncertainty. When she first reached out to Dream Makers, her passion was clear—baking. Baking gave her hope. But obstacles stood in her way, especially the cost of supplies.

When Alexandria’s dream was chosen and her supplies were purchased, she quickly turned her passion into purpose. Not only is she baking, but she’s also running a small business.

Throughout the summer, you’ll find her at farmers' markets, selling her creations and earning an income.

Her story doesn’t end there. With an ssociate's degree under her belt, Alexandria is now pursuing her bachelor's degree. She’s also giving back. Through one-on-one mentorship, she equips other former foster youth with the tools they need to succeed. She’s building a brighter future—not just for herself, but for her community.

“Foster youth are not broken. They’re resilient, just like me. We are resourceful, we are ready.”

With a hope-filled perspective, Alexandria is thriving, and so can you!

We’re cheering you on!
